Free & Reduced Meal Information
Although all students receive meals at no cost, families are encouraged to complete a Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application. Eligibility information may help determine eligibility for certain other benefits and programs.
Completed applications may be returned to the main office.
Direct Certification
Some students are automatically determined eligible for free or reduced-price meals through Direct Certification (DC). Direct Certification is a process that allows the school to determine a student's meal eligibility without requiring a household to complete a meal application.
Students may be identified through programs such as:
- CalFresh (SNAP)
- CalWorks (TANF)
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
- Medi-Cal
- Other programs that may qualify a student for categorical eligibility, such as foster, migrant, homeless, runaway, or Head Start.
No action is required from families when a child is directly certified. If your child is identified through Direct Certification, the school will notify you of their eligibility.
If your child is already directly certified, you do not need to complete a Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application for that child.
If you believe your child may qualify for a higher level of meal benefits than the level determined through Direct Certification, you may submit a meal application. The most favorable eligibility determination will apply.
